...Losing Interest?

I don't want to press this point too hard, but...

I'm wondering if the host's commitment to YML is dwindling. Several shows have not had video and when I've tried to stream the archived audio, QT simply continues attempting to connect without success, which makes me wonder if the server's been turned off. (I know my software and broadband cable connection are good. I'm currently listening to an iTunes Radio stream as I type.)

Also, the YML Chooser hasn't been updated and no word provided as to when or whether it ever will be. While the Chooser is not that big a deal, it was terrific that Jay created it as a quick link to YML streams. (But, it's not that tough to update it.)

While the new web site has some interesting aspects to it, I sure miss there being a true, Forum section. This new set-up, to me, is an excersize in scrolling. I'll grant I really don't know much about web design, but I do know when I like it. And, I'm not too keen about this site's navigation design.

The shows, themselves, have been good and informative as they've always been, but the infrastructure support seems to have dropped since the move to CT.

YML has been a regular Saturday morning listen ever since I found this show when it was based in Vancouver. When I can not get the show, my Saturday tech news-cruise is just not as fun. I sure hope I'm off-base in my appraisal. But, as an interested listener, I feel compelled to express the observation.

"I'm wondering if the host's

"I'm wondering if the host's commitment to YML is dwindling."

Nope.

"Several shows have not had video"

And we've explained why on the show. The live video stream is *hugely* expensive.

"when I've tried to stream the archived audio, QT simply continues attempting to connect without success, which makes me wonder if the server's been turned off."

Not at all. They are up and running 24/7. There may be occasional glitches due to Net traffic but the audio stream is up and running.

"Also, the YML Chooser hasn't been updated and no word provided as to when or whether it ever will be."

YML Chooser was a J test application. He created it and he maintains it. He simply may not have any interest in updating it. You can contact him at this address - email [at] digitalhooligans [dot] com.

"And, I'm not too keen about this site's navigation design."

Sorry to hear that. Considering what we needed the site "to do", Drupal was the best option. A lot of folks like it but I understand if some don't.

"The shows, themselves, have been good and informative as they've always been, but the infrastructure support seems to have dropped since the move to CT."

What "infrastructure support" are you referring to?

"I sure hope I'm off-base in my appraisal."

I think you are - but I'm biased. :)

"But, as an interested listener, I feel compelled to express the observation."

And we appreciate it!

Glad to hear it...

Shawn,

Thanks for your response, and I appreciate you didn't get overly-sensitive (or, defensive) in your replies. My comments were not meant to back you into a tough corner, but simply provide to observation. Your replies were reassuring.

My reference to "infrastructure support" was principally about being unable, on several occasions, to stream the archived, YML audio. Moreover and each time, I had tried to activate the stream after a subsequent time-period and with the same result. I'd never previously experienced this with your archived audio; and so it seemed something was maybe askew. So if the server has been up & running all the time, I accept that there was another, unknown cause.

The other reference was to the Chooser. I'd just found the Chooser a great shortcut, and I've missed it since the change. (I'll get over it, and I'll drop making an issue out of the request.)

I enjoy YML. You show is informative and entertaining. It's a regular tech-stop, for me, on the web and especially, on Saturday mornings. It will continue to be so.
