Old Economy Stocks Top Gainers in Past Decade

MarketWatch debuted the same year that Steve Jobs reclaimed the CEO slot at Apple Inc., the iconic computer maker that he founded and has since transformed into a consumer electronics powerhouse known as much for its digital music players and wireless phones as for its popular line of Mac computers.

Apple has been one of the best performing stocks since MarketWatch debuted in October of 1997 -- the second-best, in fact -- rising more than 3,500% between then and October of this year, according to Ford Equity Research.
