I was listening to the audible download on the weekend and was
interested in your discussion on the software prices of the new CS
suite. What I found interesting was the discussion on how "expensive"
things are... I find this interesting because of the price that I pay
for software.
For example, I pay $800 per year for a single software license and
have done this for over 12 years. If I want 2 licenses for the
software, then I would have to pay $1750 for the second copy and
another $800 per year for the license... a grand total of $1600 per
year... and this is the academic prices! Much of the software that I
use have yearly license fees of many hundreds of dollars which I
have to pay... but in many cases I do not have a choice.... caught
between the rock and the hard place.
I guess it comes down to the fact that price is relative.... and we
do get a "break" on the price with academic discounts.
