iPod not synching or charging when the cable is connected

I've had an iPod Nano (4 gig version) for about a week, and in the past few hours I haven't been able to get it to synch with iTunes on my Mac. The cable is hooked up to one of the USB ports on the back of the computer, but nothing happens when I plug it in to the iPod. The iPod has been working fine otherwise, so is it simply that I got a bad cable? It was working until I got home today and tried to plug it in.

Overall though, I am impressed with the iPod. Even 4 gigs gives me a lot of listening time :-)

Looks like I fixed it- ran

Looks like I fixed it- ran through a reset, plugged it in, and it's charging and synching.

Still curious what caused the problem in the first place.

It's doing it!

This time I did a reset on the ipod, and nothing is happening when I plug the cable in, and I've checked that the iMac's US ports are working. The iPod itself is operating just fine, so I'm thinking it's the cable.

Did I get a bad cable or has anyone else had a cable short out shortly after getting their iPod.

At least I've got music and battery life in the iPod to last until I can get a replacement cable :-)
