GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)?

Shawn,

From listening to the last few shows, I know that you and Lesa have
taken on the task of teaching photography. I wonder if, as part of
this, you and Lesa could mention something about GIMP (GNU Image
Manipulation Program). Does it replace Photoshop, Elements, iPhoto,
etc? Can it be a useful substitute on the image manipulation end of
things? Also, does it do more than Elements, but less than Photoshop?
Where does it fit in?

We always talk about how the Macintosh is a better platform because
we can access applications available to other OSes, but this is a
real chance to demonstrate that premise with something that matters
to most folks.

Thanks for your consideration!

Regards,

J. Leko (pronounced LEE - co)
