iPod and car stereos

I'm looking for the good, bad and ugly of connecting my 5th gen iPod video to my semi new 2006 Toyota Tacoma. It has the standard low end stereo and I have tried boxes from Dice, and Vais Tech. I'm not real impressed with either. The are semi buggy and don't work very well.

So I'm considering replacing the stereo to get better iPod control and text on the display.

Any other boxes to consider using? I also need an AUX input too.

If any third party boxes don't work what make and model of replacement stereo's do you recomend? And let's try and keep it under $400 or so. I don't need anything super impressive.

Thanks
Ron

Frankly, if you have a cassette deck, get an inexpensive cassette converter. It was the best connection I've come up with for a car without a build-in iPod connection.
