Simply Canvas

Hey Shawn,

Wanted to let you know that I finally got my Simply Canvas print delivered, and I must say it really is like a work of art. I'm so pleased with it. I decided not to go with any of my personal snapshots, mostly taken with a 3.2 megapixel Canon PowerShot. Instead, I got my grubby little hands on some professionally done pictures from my brother's wedding a couple of years ago. Perfect timing for a Christmas gift. And I'd like to share with y'all how it turned out.

Original picture (Look kids, rule of thirds!)

And the resulting canvas

Yes, my own camera skills are lacking. If only there were some kind of class a photography white belt like me could take.... :)

Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Newbie's Guide to Twitter

From Webware

If you're not using Twitter yet, you may feel as if you've missed out. Twitter has not only tipped the tuna, but by some estimations, it has already jumped the shark. Don't be put off by its excessive popularity with SXSW geeks or by the whining of Twitter haters who missed the fun.

Twitter is an interesting and practical real-time messaging system for groups and friends. It's just not completely obvious how to get into the "club." So, here's a newbie's guide to this new platform.

(Shawn's Comment: FYI Lesa's Twitter "address" is http://twitter.com/LesaKing" and mine is http://twitter.com/ShawnKing - no promises we'll "follow" you though :) )

SpamSieve

SpamSieve "brings powerful Bayesian spam filtering to Mac e-mail clients". I've been using it for a few months (after trying several other apps, including SpamAssassin and SpamArrest). It’s easy to control SpamSieve from within Entourage, and I have customized it to work with the rest of my (hundreds) of Rules.

SlingShot 200 AW

I *love* this new camera bag from LowePro.

Easy to carry, compact, holds the camera snugly and has room in the main body for lenses, hoods, batteries, etc. Outer pockets for miscellaneous stuff. It has an interesting carrying position too. It "slings" across your body like a messenger bag and, due to the design of the camera opening, allows you to quickly get at your camera and even use the bag as a "platform" for shooting.

Watch Frontline

Peter Cohen says:
PBS' Frontline is currently broadcasting the first part of a four part series entitled News War. Absolutely fascinating stuff, and I highly recommend it.

The people they lined up for Part I are truly a stellar cast -- executive editors for the New York Times and Washington Post, a writer for The New Yorker, Bob Woodward, a professor of journalism at George Washington University, Judith Miller and others, talking about how the Bush Administation has manipulated the press.
